Queens, NY – Catch your cold-weather friends before they march off during the first weekend of spring at the New York Hall of Science, where a Penguin Film Festival caps off the final days of photographer Holly Gordon’s well-received gallery exhibition Antarctica: Journey into the Extreme.
On display through March 26, Antarctica: Journey into the Extreme is a photography exhibition of many layers. It is an intimate encounter with nature in one of the coldest, windiest, and driest places on Earth. The debut exhibition features 40 photos including drifting icebergs, snow-covered mountains, and plenty of penguins.
The recently added Penguin Film Festival will take place at 1 and 3:30 pm, March 25 – 26 in the Hall’s auditorium and will include:
March of the Penguins
Each winter, alone in the ice deserts of Antarctica, a remarkable journey takes place as thousands of emperor penguins abandon the security of their ocean home and begin their long journey to their traditional breeding ground where they pair off and mate. The emperor penguins repeat the arduous journey countless times, marching hundreds of miles over treacherous territory, until the chicks are ready to take care of themselves (85 min.).
Penguins of Antarctica
See the habitat and behavior of the gentoo and chinstrap penguins of the Antarctic Peninsula. The penguins are shown in all aspects of their daily lives, with the dramatic Antarctic scenery as a backdrop. This film was shot entirely on location in Antarctica (5 min.).
All gallery exhibitions and the Penguin Film Festival are included with paid admission to the Hall.
