The Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery of the Art League of Long Island in Dix Hills is a spacious two floor gallery and 52 pieces of work pairing the new photographic art of Holly Gordon that she describes as beyond photography with the watercolor paintings by renown Northport painter, Ward Hooper.
For the past year Ward has shown Holly the rugged and diverse North Shore Long Island terrain that have been most inspirational to his paintings. This area is rich in history, as has attracted artists for centuries. Holly has responded to this collaboration with a transformative body of work that explores the vast realm of digital darkroom technology.
Exhibited works range in size from approximately 40×30 to 30×20 and while they share a common location, similarities and differences provide opportunity for insight into the creative process as well as pushing the boundaries of photography…as we think we know it.
Not only do Ward and Holly share an intimate creative collaboration, but painting and photography have shared an interwoven history as well.
The inadvertent discovery of the creative parallel between early American abstract artists, Arthur Dove and Helen Torr added to the serendipity of this yearlong collaboration that began on Facebook into a journey that should become part of art history.
The collaboration continues. This is a museum-quality scalable traveling exhibition of more than forty paired pieces, created to date.
Inquiries to host this exhibition are welcomed.
